The Burren Food Fayre
The Burren Food Fayre kicks off for its 8th annual year in The Pavilion Community Hall, Lisdoonvarna on October Bank Holiday weekend. With chef demos, food stalls, foraging walks, Live music and delicious local, artisan and wild food, this food-themed event is not to be missed.
It is a great opportunity for local producers to showcase their range of local produce from the Burren region to national and international visitors.
As another treat, the fayre will hold 2 alternative foraging walks on the day – one with Oonagh O’Dwyer of Wild Kitchen and one with Lisa Guinan of Irish Herbal Roots.
Each year on the October Bank Holiday weekend The Burren Food Fayre plays a part in the festivities for the Winterage Festival, which is celebrated in the towns and villages of the Burren. This harvest celebration, at the end of the growing season, emphasises the unique way of farming on the limestone land, culminating in a cattle drive to the uplands.
The festival kicks off on Saturday evening at the Burren Storehouse with the launch of the Burren Dinners Book, a collaboration between the Burren Food Trail members with author & chef Trevis Gleason. The book will be launched by Brian McDermott Donegal based celebrity chef, author and proprietor of the Foyle Hotel. Brian will also be in attendance on the Sunday market at the Pavillion in Lisdoonvarna were he will do a cooking demo with one of the book’s recipes. The Food Market on Sunday is free to attend for all and it will include Food and Craft stalls, with a special Vegetarian Street Food section, cooking demos, outdoor food trucks, and live music to suit all taste buds.
There are 2 themes this year: “Taste Without Waste” and “Burren Dinners”. The Fayre is organised by the Conservation and Advocacy group of the Burren Ecotourism Network, and they are striving this year to not only minimise the waste produced by this event but also to increase awareness on waste reduction.
