An Archeological Site
Caherconnell is located in the heart of the Burren UNESCO Geopark and is owned and run by the Davoren family who have lived in this area for over 1000 years. A site of international archaeological importance, Caherconnell was inhabited up to the late 16th century. Through interaction with expert local staff, the traditions and heritage of Caherconnell are brought to life for the visitor.
Situated 1km south of the world famous Poulnabrone Dolmen, this unique Irish ring fort offers you the opportunity to visit an exceptionally well preserved example of an ancient Irish stone fort with a modern twist.
Sheepdog Demonstrations
There has always been a strong tradition of training sheepdogs at Caherconnell and John, the current farmer has maintained this tradition for over 50 years. Our sheepdog experience is interactive and fun. Visitors stand in a sheltered area and our border collies Lee, Lynn, Rose and Jess can be seen working working individually and as part of a team, guiding the sheep from the field to the visitor area.
The Sheepdog Demonstrations take place daily.
Craft Shop & Mountain Haven Café
Visitors can enjoy an artisan coffee in The Mountain Haven Café accompanied by a freshly baked scone. Lunch is also served daily.
The craft shop at Caherconnell features a collection of eclectic and authentic gifts along with more traditional Irish gifts.
