Doreen Drennan - The Artist
Wild Atlantic Way artist Doreen Drennan is an impressionist painter with over 30 years experience of capturing on canvas the uniqueness and breathtaking beauty of the Burren and the Atlantic coastline of Co. Clare and the West of Ireland.
Doreen’s preferred medium is oil paint applied with a palette knife to fully express the energy and vibrancy of the Wild Atlantic Way. Her unique paintings allow people to take into their homes an image of the West of Ireland, where they are enjoyed and celebrated internationally in several private and corporate collections. An original oil painting can last for hundreds of years and become a family heirloom, but also available are a limited series of fine art prints on canvas
and watercolour paper.
Doreen resides on the edge of the Burren between Lisdoonvarna and Doolin, her studio/gallery is open to visitors, is surrounded by her coastal garden and set against the backdrop of the Cliffs of Moher. An exhibition of Doreen’s paintings is always on display in her gallery, and
appointments are welcome but not essential, other than in the Winter months.
The Garden
Doreen Drennan’s gallery is surrounded by a one acre coastal garden. It comprises a walled garden with raised limestone beds, a river walk garden, rolling lawns planted with shrub filled beds, and views to the Cliffs of Moher.
This is Doreen’s third garden and by far her most challenging because of exposure to the salty winds of the Atlantic, but having persevered through trial and error, the garden is now thriving. The garden is home to hundreds of perennials, trees and shrubs which survive on this exposed but beautiful site.
The Poet
Doreen’s book entitled “Of Surf & Stone” was published in 2022. The book contains poetic musings of Co. Clare, a glimpse of Doreen’s life growing up on Achill Island, images of her paintings, and images of the garden.
The book is available for sale on the website and in her gallery and all proceeds are going to the RNLI.
