The Salmon Experience
Taste The Atlantic – Salmon Experience
Right next to the Visitor Centre at the Burren Smokehouse in Lisdoonvarna, a new fun experience is waiting for you.
In a self-guided & interactive visitor centre called “Taste the Atlantic – the Salmon Experience”, you will immerse yourself in the story of Irish Salmon. Follow this noble fish through time and watch the legend of the Salmon of Knowledge unfold before your eyes. Learn about old ways of fishing salmon, and with the help of those original news reels from decades ago, find out why and how modern aquaculture evolved.
Back in the Burren Smokehouse visitor centre, you will watch a short video about the smoking process, and a member of staff will explain the kiln on display and other facts about salmon. You will also be able to taste the Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon and explore the materials used for smoking.

The Taste the Atlantic – Irish Salmon Visitor Experience was launched in Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare on the 25th of October 2019 by Mrs Sabina Higgins, wife of President Michael D Higgins.
The visitor centre is a fully interactive space where the story of Irish salmon is told, from its place in Irish mythology and history right up to the role salmon aquaculture plays in sustaining coastal communities in some of Ireland’s most remote rural locations.
The centre features both traditional artefacts and multimedia in a mixed reality setting and tells the story in an immersive and entertaining fashion.
